2008-Mar-31 - Acne Skin Care for Men

Pharmacy Store

Author's views and tips on acne skin care for men!

Author's views on Acne:

One of the worst things that can happen to you is acne breakout. I had that since I entered puberty. I tried many products, visited doctors and spent so much money on my face alone, none of it can solve my acne problems. Here are some hard facts that I found out:

1. Doctor's prescriptions (medications) are meant to control your hormones changes or to prevent your oil glands from secreting too much oil. It is never used to solve acne problem immediately. Many people gave up hope on the prescriptions after taken it for awhile because it never seems to solve the problems. So what if your hormones are balance? So what if you oils glands did not secrete as much oil as it used to? There will be still acne breakouts.

2. Facials and facial products. I remembered I went to New York Skin's solutions and spend $5,000 worth of services there for only 10 sections and the skin seemed to get better but it got worse after I discontinued the services. After that, I went to other facial services (essential) and my face improved drastically. Many advertisements on facial services and products are gimmicks to attract people to purchase their services. Just because they have successful stories do not mean that all the customers purchase their services will get the results they see on the television? Some facial services may not be suitable for people like me who has sensitive skin. Some products may not be as effective as other products that may more effectively curb your problems.

3. I found out my way of keeping my skin clean and clear from acne. Like I say before, my skin is different from yours so the tips I share may not be necessary be as effective as other tips other people has but my tips are genuine.......

Author's tips:1. Do not touch your face or anything that will touch your face. Try as much as possible not to touch your face. Your hands are filled with germs and bacteria so when it touch your face, it probably will have a chemical reaction with oil and produce pimples. Your pillow case, your hand phones or even telephones may also be filled with germs and bacteria. This is why; I tend not to lie my face on my hand or on my pillow. Keep clear of things that will touch your face.

2. Source for your own skin care products and services. I source for my own skin care products because not all suits me. I remember the time when I sign on a package with New York Skin Solutions that I regretted it because, the services make me better and I am improving but not as fast as it was supposed to. Not only that, I had to endure so much pain and delicate so much time on it that I can go somewhere else better. It was until my mum brought me to her facial services which drastically improve my skin. I also used many products. Many are not as effective until I found the product that suits my face better (T3 gel). I had to trial and error because like I say, the product may be better for you but may not be better for me. The tip that some website tells me is by testing it behind your ear for a few weeks. Give the product and services time to see the results. I trial and error these products for three to four weeks before finally settle on something that is effective for my skin.

3. Cleanse your face at least twice a day but do not do it more than four times a day. Face is part of a human body so there is always a limit and range. The reason why I impose a limit of four times a day is excessive cleansing of your face will cause your face to be very dry this is not helpful because your face will be more prone to bacteria. Our face will have a natural layer of oil to protect the skin from foreign particles; hence excessive cleansing will effectively means removing the protecting barrier. Washing less than twice a day will mean your face will accumulate more germs and bacteria on your face and you would not want that to happen as it means more acne outbreaks.

4. Do not manipulate pimples with your fingers (squeezing or picking). This is the mistakes where I do the most. By squeezing or picking your pimples unprofessionally, you will leave scars on your face and scars do not heal that fast. Leave it and the pimples will probably be gone in two to three weeks?’ time.

5. Consult a doctor or any professional help. Try asking your friends, your relatives for good doctors that can help you to solve your acne problems but like I say before, do not rely on them to solve your problems, do it yourselves.

Researchers are still trying to better understand what causes someone to have Agoraphobia. Agoraphobia is not, as many people believe, just about open spaces. It is really the fear of being in any place or situation where the sufferer does not feel safe or where the sufferer feels trapped. What is Agoraphobia?Agoraphobia is not, as many people believe, just about open spaces. It is really the fear of being in any place or situation where the sufferer does not feel safe or where the sufferer feels trapped, and he/she is filled by an uncontrollable urge to escape to a place of safety which, in most cases, is his/her own house.Agoraphobia Signs & Symptoms
  • Fear of crowds
  • Fear of public transport
  • Restriction to home or neighborhood
  • Fear of losing control in a public place
Agoraphobia CausesResearchers are still trying to better understand what causes someone to have agoraphobia. As with most mental illnesses, agoraphobia is probably caused by a complex mix of:
  • Genetics
  • Changes in the brains chemistry or activity
  • Lifes experiences
  • Temperament or thinking that may start a cycle of fear
  • Having a nervous system that responds excessively, even to normal stimuli
Risk FactorsA risk factor is something that increases you chance of getting a disease or a condition. Risk factors for agoraphobia include:
  • Nervous or anxious temperament
  • Family history of anxiety disorders or phobias
  • Age between 18-35
  • Female sex
  • Panic disorder or other psychiatric disorder
Agoraphobia DiagnosisPeople who suffer from panic attacks should discuss the problem with a physician. The doctor can diagnose the underlying panic or anxiety disorder and make sure the symptoms are not related to some other underlying medical condition. The doctor makes the diagnosis of Agoraphobia based primarily on the patient's description of his or her symptoms. Agoraphobia TreatmentTreatment with PsychotherapyThere are many forms of treatment available for agoraphobia and the goal of each one is to help the phobic person to function effectively. The success of the treatment depends on the severity of the phobia. Systematic desensitization or graded real-life exposure, called exposure therapy, is a behavioral technique used to treat phobias. This therapy has proved successful with a majority of patients. Other types of therapies that are used to treat Agoraphobics include:
  • Cognitive Therapy,
  • Assertiveness Training,
  • Biofeedback,
  • Hypnosis,
  • Meditation,
  • Relaxation and
  • Couples Therapy.
  • Treatment with Medication
As part of this treatment the patient is prescribed medication both to prevent panic attacks and also to reduce their frequency and severity. As the patients realize that their panic attacks have become less frequent or severe; they get the confidence to venture to places and face situations that they had been avoiding previously. Combination TreatmentSome patients have benefited from the combination of medicines and psychotherapy. In fact, this approach has been found to be more effective with a low relapse rate. It is also believed that this approach provides rapid relief in comparison to using just one of them. Research has shown that the sooner you start the recovery process the more likely your chances of a successful recovery are.Prevention of AgoraphobiaThere is no sure way to prevent Agoraphobia. However, anxiety tends to increase the more you avoid situations that you fear. If you start to have mild fears about going places that are safe, try to practice going to those places before your fear becomes overwhelming. If this is too hard to do on your own, ask a family member or friend to go with you or seek professional help.

2008-Mar-25 - XenoPort And GlaxoSmithKline Report Positive Top-line Results Of Final Pivotal Trial Of XP13512/GSK1838262 For Restless Legs Syndrome

Pharmacy Store

XenoPort, Inc. (Nasdaq: XNPT) and GlaxoSmithKline (NYSE: GSK) announced positive top-line results from the final pivotal Phase 3 clinical trial of XP13512 (GSK1838262) for the treatment of moderate-to-severe symptoms of primary restless legs syndrome, or RLS. XP13512 demonstrated statistically significant improvements compared to placebo on both of the co-primary endpoints of the trial and was generally well-tolerated.

"We have now demonstrated in three Phase 3 trials that XP13512 treatment leads to a clear improvement in RLS symptoms. Based on data from the RLS clinical program, we believe that XP13512 could offer compelling benefits to patients with primary RLS," said Ronald W. Barrett, Ph.D., chief executive officer of XenoPort.

"This novel compound is the first non-dopaminergic agent to demonstrate efficacy in controlled clinical trials for the treatment of primary RLS and may offer patients a new treatment option," said Atul Pande, M.D., senior vice president, GlaxoSmithKline Neurosciences Medicines Development Center. "With the completion of this third Phase 3 clinical trial, we look forward to filing the NDA for primary RLS in the third quarter of 2008."

This clinical trial (XP053) was a 12-week, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase 3 clinical trial that enrolled 325 patients who were diagnosed with moderate-to-severe primary RLS. Patients were treated with 1200 mg or 600 mg of XP13512 or placebo, given once per day. The pre-specified primary efficacy analysis of the study was the comparison of the 1200 mg XP13512 and placebo treatment groups. The co-primary endpoints for the clinical trial were the change from baseline for the International Restless Legs Syndrome (IRLS) rating scale score at end of treatment and the percentage of patients showing significant improvement on the Investigator Clinical Global Impression of Improvement (CGI-I) scale at end of treatment.

Results from the pre-specified analysis indicate that treatment with 1200 mg of XP13512 was associated with statistically significant improvements in the co-primary endpoints compared to placebo. Improvements in the IRLS scale score were significantly greater for 1200 mg XP13512 than for placebo (unadjusted mean values: -13.0 for 1200 mg XP13512; -9.8 for placebo; p=0.0015). At the end of treatment, significantly more patients treated with 1200 mg of XP13512 were reported as "much improved" or "very much improved" on the CGI-I scale compared to those treated with placebo (78% for 1200 mg XP13512; 45% for placebo; p< 0.0001).

Treatment with 600 mg of XP13512 was also associated with statistically significant improvements in the IRLS and CGI-I endpoints compared to placebo. The unadjusted mean reduction in the IRLS scale score was -13.8 for 600 mg XP13512 patients (p<0.0001 compared to placebo). At the end of treatment, 73% of patients treated with 600 mg of XP13512 were reported as "much improved" or "very much improved" on the CGI-I scale (p<0.0001 compared to placebo).

During the 12-week treatment period, the most commonly reported adverse events for XP13512 were dizziness (24% 1200 mg XP13512; 10% 600 mg XP13512; 5% placebo) and somnolence (18% 1200 mg XP13512; 22% 600 mg XP13512; 2% placebo). These adverse events were generally mild or moderate in intensity. Withdrawals due to adverse events were 7% in the 1200 mg XP13512 group, 6% in the 600 mg XP13512 group and 6% in the placebo group. There were three reported serious adverse events in the study (one in the placebo group, two in the 600 mg XP13512 group), none of which were considered treatment-related.

Dr. Barrett stated, "This study provides additional confirmation of the efficacy and safety of the 1200 mg dose of XP13512 in RLS patients. The efficacy of 600 mg XP13512 in this study was somewhat surprising since a two-week Phase 2 clinical trial with a 600 mg dose did not show a statistical difference from placebo. Data from all doses examined in the RLS trials will be evaluated as part of the XP13512 NDA. With three positive pivotal RLS trials now completed, we hope to provide an important new treatment option to patients with primary RLS. "

About XP13512

XP13512 is a patented, new chemical entity that is designed to improve upon the clinical utility of gabapentin by taking advantage of high-capacity transport mechanisms in the gastrointestinal tract to improve absorption.

Completed phase 3 clinical trials for moderate-to-severe primary RLS

XP052

A double-blind, 12-week clinical trial comparing 1200 mg of XP13512 to placebo designed to evaluate safety and efficacy. Results from this trial were released on April 25, 2007.

XP060

A placebo-controlled clinical trial designed to evaluate the potential of 1200 mg of XP13512 to maintain efficacy over nine months in patients. Results from this trial were released on January 16, 2008.

About RLS

According to the National Institutes of Health, up to 12 million people in the U.S. are afflicted with RLS across a range of severity from mild to severe. The syndrome is characterized by disturbing, unpleasant and sometimes painful sensations in the legs that result in a compelling urge to move. The discomfort is often temporarily relieved by movement. Because symptoms typically occur at night, RLS patients often suffer from sleep disruption. RLS symptoms can be debilitating published data suggest that RLS can have an impact on quality of life equivalent to, or worse than, major chronic medical disorders such as diabetes and osteoarthritis.

About XP13512 Collaborations

In December 2005, XenoPort licensed to Astellas Pharma Inc. rights to develop and commercialize XP13512 in Japan, Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand and Taiwan. In February 2007, XenoPort entered into a collaboration with GSK for the development and commercialization of XP13512 in all countries of the world, excluding the Astellas territory. XenoPort is completing RLS clinical trials in the U.S. in support of the submission of the NDA by GSK, which is expected in the third quarter of this year. GSK is responsible for all other clinical development and commercialization of XP13512 outside the Astellas territory. In December 2007, GSK announced plans to initiate clinical trials of XP13512 in 2008 for treatment of sleep disturbance in patients with moderate-to-severe primary RLS, management of post-herpetic neuralgia and painful diabetic neuropathy and for migraine prophylaxis.

Eating the right types of foods day in and day out is probably the top pick.

Although this is a great idea, and it's what every bodybuilder or Personal Training enthusiast should be doing, it only addresses one part of the equation.

What Is The Other Part Of Total Fitness & Health?

Well, to tell you the truth without this, dieting wouldn't do you any good.

This is more important as far as health and well being even more so than having a perfect diet.

A planned cardiovascular exercise and weight training program could be the key to your success and continued motivation.

When you are working out daily this increases your motivation ten fold.

After you get done with a hard workout are you going to go to the kitchen and have a pint of rocky road ice cream with a piece of cheesecake on the side, I don't think so.

When you put all of that effort into a workout or Personal Training you will obviously want to capitalize on the workout and continue its benefits by eating optimal foods throughout the day. A great idea would be to put a note or poster on your fridge/pantry that says "Is is worth it", or something to that effect. This will really make you think twice before you go into the pantry to grab that box of twinkles and run to the couch to chow them down.

Not only does your exercise affect your belly it also affects your mood. Study after study show that consistent exercise affects your mood in a positive way. Meaning you're gonna be happier every day. Rather than the only thing to look forward to being your daily ritual of eating on the couch you're actually gonna feel good about yourself.

A recent study also showed how even those that eat healthy are still not necessarily if they don't exercise. The main factor in a person's health is if they exercise. You're internal fat can still be at a high level when you visually look thin with a shirt on.

So you can see that dieting is not just what you eat but it is also about working out. If you don't know how to workout effectively or are confused about where to even start consider getting help from a reputable personal trainer or fitness studio.

2008-Mar-18 - Acne Skin Care for All: Affordably

Pharmacy Store

Acne problems are common among teenagers, but this problem also becomes a very significant disease of the skin among grown ups. Research shows that most of those who have problems with acne also have other hormonal problems, which leads to the belief that acne is generally caused by hormonal imbalances, regardless of age. However, proper acne skin care would definitely prove to cure this problem, gradually.

Besides the common belief, research shows that acne can also be caused by heredity skin problems, common environmental allergies, stress, drugs, naturally oily skin, menstrual cycles for women, candidiasis, nutritional deficiencies, diets high in saturated fats, too much toxic waste in the blood and many more.

Food Control

When it comes to food, generally any acne skin care expert would tell you not to have too much food which contains too much fat. The same would go for food with toxins as well. When there is too much toxicity in the blood for the kidneys and liver to eliminate, the skin would take over the task by eliminating the toxins through sweat, which can directly lead to acne.

Hormonal Treatments And Skin Care Products

Hormones in our body stimulate the production of keratin and sebum. In the two, sometimes there might be imbalance in production, whereby the sebum might be concealed faster which would lead to a blemish when it gets its way through the pore. Everyday??™s exposure to the air would collect bacteria around the area, and the bacteria would be trapped inside the pore, and this leads to a blackhead or whitehead commonly. As the pores become clogged, acne forms. And this clogging is not only caused by bacteria, but can be by anything from dust and dirt to grime and debris.

For such problems, there are many types of acne skin care treatments available. If the situation is still not severe, you can use acne skin care products. But if the problem is very bad, you probably need to go for hormonal treatments. This acne skin care treatment is generally available at all dermatologist centers, and the treatment would include common methods such as oral contraceptives, laser treatments, and other non-contraceptive hormones which help to reduce the acne.

For those which are not so severe, common acne skin care products would do well. This would include cleansers containing skincare chemicals or ingredients such as salicylic acid, licochalone, chamomile, aloe vera, feverfew, and niacinamide. These types of acne skin care products can help to reduce the redness, inflammation, and, primarily, the acne problems.
